**16 Artists Explore Change, Memory, and Time in New Exhibition**
Nicosia, Cyprus – The Nicosia Municipal Arts Centre (NiMAC) is set to unveil a thought-provoking exhibition titled "A Slight Indisposition" on Friday, June 26. This exhibition will feature the works of 16 contemporary artists, both emerging and established, from Cyprus and abroad. It will run until July 26.
The exhibition draws its conceptual inspiration from Franz Kafka’s seminal work, "The Metamorphosis," published in 1915. Kafka's narrative, often regarded as a cornerstone of 20th-century literature, serves as a lens through which the exhibition examines themes of transformation, memory, and the passage of time. The title itself reflects the unsettling yet calm nature of change, echoing the dissonance found within Kafka’s story of irreversible metamorphosis.
"A Slight Indisposition" invites visitors to contemplate transformation not merely as a disruption but as an intrinsic aspect of existence. The selected artworks delve into the malleability of memory and explore how perceptions of time and distance evolve. They also address cycles of decay, loss, and rebirth, drawing connections across personal, ecological, and geographical histories.
The exhibition showcases a diverse range of artistic expressions, including large and small-scale audiovisual works, installations—both material and immaterial—performative actions, photographic series, paintings, drawings, and works on paper. Through these varied mediums, the artists articulate shared anxieties and feelings of alienation, juxtaposed with collective aspirations for change and the transformative potential of experience.
The featured artists include Toya Akpınar, Hasan Aksaygın, Fauve Alice, Emir Anday, Nikolas Antoniou, Banu Cennetoğlu, Jake and Dinos Chapman, Emin Çizenel, Haris Epaminonda, Sümer Erek, Julie Gauthron, Stelios Kallinikou, Burak Kibar Zafer, Erol Kutay, Loreal Prystaj, and Umay Yılmaz. Each artist contributes a unique perspective on the themes of the exhibition, enriching the discourse surrounding transformation and its implications.
To complement the exhibition, a series of parallel events will be held. The opening night will feature two performances: "The Offspring" by Umay Yılmaz at 7 PM, followed by Hasan Aksaygın’s "Hallowing the Limax Dei" at 8 PM. Additional events include a performance and discussion titled "Grab a Pile of Dust" by Sümer Erek on July 9, as well as artist talks scheduled for July 2 and July 9.
Guided tours of the exhibition will also be available, providing deeper insights into the artworks and their themes. Dr. Esra Plümer Bardak will lead an English-language tour on July 16 at 6 PM, while Ioanna Chrysovitsioti will conduct a Greek-language tour on July 18 at 10 AM, followed by a Turkish-language tour at 11:30 AM on the same day.
"A Slight Indisposition" promises to be a compelling exploration of the complexities of change and the interplay between memory and time. The exhibition will be open from Wednesday to Saturday, 10 AM to 8 PM, and on Sunday from 10 AM to 6 PM.
