A 31-year-old man, believed to be the intended recipient, and a 23-year-old woman who worked at the Limassol premises where authorities said the products were sold were arrested in connection with the case. The operation took place on 9 July as part of joint efforts by the Customs Department and the Drug Law Enforcement Unit to detect narcotics at entry points into the Republic of Cyprus. Officials selected a shipment of two courier parcels for inspection after examining its documentation. The parcels had arrived from another European Union member state, carried suspicious sender and recipient details and had been declared as “souvenirs”. A physical inspection of the two cardboard boxes uncovered various products, including tea, coffee, chewing gum, gummies, cigarette filters, electronic cigarettes and hand-rolled cigarettes. Authorities said the products contained cannabis or other synthetic cannabinoid chemicals. Customs officers seized the parcels and their contents and handed them over to the Drug Law Enforcement Unit for further investigation. A subsequent search of the Limassol premises uncovered additional quantities of cannabinoid products, which were also seized. The Limassol branch of the Drug Law Enforcement Unit is investigating the case.
