**2026 Cyprus Swim Challenge Final Event to Promote Plastic-Free Seas on July 26**
The Go Overboard Cyprus Swim Challenge 2026, themed "Swimming for Cleaner Seas," is set to culminate on July 26, 2026, at Nisia Lombardi Beach, located at the Cavo Maris Hotel in Protaras. This event aims to raise awareness about marine environmental protection and the urgent need to reduce plastic pollution in Cyprus' coastal waters.
Organized by the Cyprus Environment Foundation and the Nicosia Triathlon Club Nireas, the challenge also sees the Cyprus Sustainable Tourism Initiative (CSTI) joining as a co-organizer. The event aligns with the global Plastic Free July campaign, which encourages individuals and communities to reduce their reliance on single-use plastics.
The final event of the swim challenge is designed to combine sports with environmental advocacy, highlighting the importance of community involvement in preserving the island's marine ecosystem. Participants will engage in open-water swimming, stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), and kayaking, all while learning about local marine conservation efforts.
The day's schedule begins with registration from 7:00 to 7:30 AM, followed by open-water swimming from 7:30 to 9:30 AM. SUP and kayaking activities will take place from 8:30 to 9:30 AM, allowing participants to explore the waters while promoting a plastic-free message. The event will conclude with refreshments, a prize draw, and presentations on various environmental initiatives from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
Throughout the day, attendees will have the opportunity to engage with representatives from CSTI, the Cyprus Environment Foundation, the Enalia Physis Environmental Research Centre, and the Marine and Environmental Research (MER) Lab.
