The 21-year-old was in the area with a person known to him, police said. He is believed to have dived into the water from a pier and was then seen calling for help. Despite his companion’s efforts, he could not be brought out of the water in time and was pulled out unconscious. He was taken to hospital immediately, where he was pronounced dead. The second person who was with him is in good health. At first sight, the 21-year-old does not appear to have sustained any injury from the dive. The circumstances of the incident are under investigation. The exact cause of death will be established following a post-mortem examination at a later stage.
