**24kg of Cannabis Products Intercepted at Larnaca Airport – Two Arrested**
Larnaca, Cyprus – In a significant drug interception, customs officers and police at Larnaca Airport seized a shipment containing 24 kilograms of various cannabis-based products. The discovery was made on Sunday, as authorities investigated two packages that had arrived from another European Union member state.
The customs department reported that the packages raised suspicions due to their sender and recipient details. Initially labeled as “souvenirs,” the contents of the packages were subjected to a thorough inspection, which revealed a total of 1,600 items. These items included a variety of products such as tea, coffee, chewing gum, jelly, cigarette filters, electronic cigarettes, and roll-up cigarettes, all of which were found to contain cannabis or synthetic cannabinoid-like chemicals.
Following the interception, authorities launched an investigation that led to the identification and arrest of two individuals connected to the shipment. A 31-year-old man was identified as the intended recipient of the packages, while a 23-year-old woman was employed at the location in Cyprus where it is believed the products were to be distributed. Both individuals are now in custody as the investigation continues.
In addition to the original seizure, police conducted a search of the premises associated with the woman and discovered additional quantities of cannabinoid products. The ongoing investigation aims to uncover further details regarding the origin of the packages and the intended distribution network.
This incident highlights ongoing efforts by Cypriot authorities to combat drug trafficking and ensure public safety. The customs department and police have reiterated their commitment to monitoring and regulating imports to prevent illegal substances from entering the country.
As the investigation unfolds, officials are expected to provide further updates on the case and any additional findings related to the seized products.
