**Title: Aircraft Battle Fire Near Tala Amid Strong Winds**
On Thursday afternoon, a significant fire broke out in the Vatouthkia area near Tala in the Paphos district, prompting an extensive firefighting response. The blaze, which primarily consumed dry grass and wild vegetation, was complicated by strong winds that hindered efforts to bring it under control.
The Cyprus Fire Service reported that four aircraft were deployed to assist in battling the flames, conducting water drops to help suppress the fire. Additionally, four fire engines from local Paphos fire stations were dispatched to the scene to support ground operations. Despite these efforts, the challenging weather conditions necessitated the reinforcement of ground crews to effectively manage the situation.
As firefighting efforts continued into the afternoon, authorities remained vigilant in monitoring the fire's progression. The strong winds in the area raised concerns about the potential for the fire to spread, prompting a coordinated response from various firefighting units.
In a related incident, a separate fire occurred west of Mitsero in the Nicosia district, which was successfully contained within a short timeframe. This fire, located in the Kokkinopezoula area, was first detected by the Koroni fire lookout at 2:15 PM and was brought under control by 2:45 PM.
