**Alleged Hamas Cell Dismantled in Cyprus and Greece**
Authorities in Cyprus and Greece have announced the dismantling of an alleged Hamas-linked cell that was reportedly operating across both countries. The operation has led to the arrest of five individuals, with a sixth suspect identified but currently at large, according to reports released on Tuesday.
The investigation focuses on a network of Palestinian nationals believed to be connected to Hamas activities not only in Cyprus and Greece but also extending to Malaysia. Security sources cited in Greek media indicate that the suspects are suspected of forming an operational cell, with one individual allegedly serving as a coordinator based in Kuala Lumpur.
The investigation gained momentum with the arrest of a 38-year-old Palestinian man on May 21 at a rented property in the Governor’s Beach area of Cyprus. Authorities allege that this individual played a significant organizational role within the group. During searches of the property, investigators reportedly discovered substances that could potentially be used in the manufacture of explosives.
Further allegations suggest that the 38-year-old financed a trip to Malaysia in August 2025, where participants were said to have received training related to explosives. Among those who reportedly took part in this trip was a 37-year-old Palestinian man who was arrested in Crete over the weekend. Greek police sources claim that this suspect admitted to being involved in the organization and allegedly had intentions to carry out an attack on Greek territory.
The 37-year-old had arrived in Greece in 2020 and was granted political asylum in 2023. Following his arrest, searches linked to him uncovered a precision scale and measuring equipment. Investigators allege that he had also ordered chemicals that could be used in the production of explosives.
In addition to these core members of the network, two Cypriot citizens of Palestinian origin were arrested in Cyprus while allegedly collecting a parcel believed to contain materials intended for the manufacture of explosives.
The investigation is ongoing in both Cyprus and Greece, with authorities continuing their efforts to locate additional suspects and ascertain the full extent of the group’s activities. As of now, no convictions have been secured, and all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
