American lawmakers’ visit to Russia to help in fight against Russophobia in US Dialogue is always better than silence, independent candidate for US President Diane Sare saidWASHINGTON, August 23. /TASS/. An expected visit of US lawmakers to Russia would contribute to the fight against Russophobia spread by American mainstream media, independent candidate for US President Diane Sare told TASS. "Dialogue is always better than silence. American lawmakers absolutely should visit Russia and speak with their Russian counterparts," she said in an interview with TASS. "They should also visit Russian cities and get a sense of the thinking of the Russian people, which is hard to know from the United States given the Russophobia being peddled in most of the American mainstream news media," Sare continued. According to her, "American lawmakers are also aware during the midterm election season that their constituents are very unhappy." "Their constituents are suffering from high inflation in the costs of energy and food and would be appreciative if their federal representatives would do something to alleviate the pain. Collaborating with Russia on projects of mutual interest, such as the Bering Strait Tunnel or space exploration, could be very beneficial," the US presidential candidate noted. "If our lawmakers would speak with their Russian counterparts, they would also learn that Russia could help the United States to extricate itself from the Iran war, which we are losing and which nobody wants," Sare added. A delegation of the Russian parliament’s lower chamber, the State Duma, held working meetings in Washington on March 26-27. Thus, the Russian-US interparliamentary dialogue, which had been frozen for many years, was effectively revived. The visit took place at the invitation of US Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna (a Republican representing Florida). Luna has repeatedly stressed that she supports maintaining contacts and developing trade relations between Russia and the United States. In late July, Luna told TASS that a delegation of US lawmakers would visit Russia this fall or winter to discuss with their Russian counterparts matters of trade and peace, and ways to rebuild ties.
