**Anagnostopoulos Officially Joins Mafia State Investigation Team**
Criminologist Ilias Anagnostopoulos has been officially appointed to the team of independent criminal investigators tasked with examining the ongoing Mafia State case. This decision was confirmed by the cabinet on Wednesday, following the recusal of Christos Mylonopoulos from the investigation last week.
The independent investigation is a response to findings from the anti-corruption authority, which recently concluded its inquiry into allegations presented in journalist Makarios Drousiotis' book, "Mafia State." The authority's investigation involved extensive efforts, including testimonies from around 150 witnesses, approximately 200 hearings, and the examination of hundreds of pieces of evidence.
Government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis announced the cabinet's decision, emphasizing the importance of providing the investigative team with the necessary resources to carry out their work effectively. He stated that the team would receive comprehensive support, including secretarial assistance and infrastructure, to facilitate their investigation.
Letymbiotis also addressed concerns regarding Anagnostopoulos' appointment, clarifying that any reservations expressed did not pertain to the authority's mandate or the independent investigators' objectives.
