A large deployment of Fire Service personnel brought the blaze, which was raging inside the premises, under control quickly, averting a worse outcome. The cause of the fire remains unknown for now, with an investigation expected to take place tomorrow. The Fire Service said the investigation will proceed once the necessary approval is secured to enter the premises, “following an inspection of its structural adequacy by a civil engineer through the Department of Labour Inspection.” The only certain detail so far is that the fire started inside the premises, where no workers were present at the time. The Fire Service received the call shortly after 7pm yesterday and brought the fire under control half an hour later. Five fire engines and a telescopic platform vehicle from Larnaca district fire stations and the Cyprus Mobile Fire and Rescue Unit (EMAK) tackled the blaze. Fire Service personnel searched inside the premises and found no trapped persons. The fire and resulting heat caused extensive damage to the building and part of its contents. Police are guarding the scene pending an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
