**At Least 62 Killed After Heavy Rain and Flooding in Northern India**

At least 62 individuals have lost their lives due to severe flooding caused by heavy rainfall in northern India's Uttar Pradesh state, according to official reports released on Monday. The state has been grappling with relentless rain over the past few days, leading to significant damage and disruption.
The state government confirmed that 46 people sustained injuries as a result of the flooding, which has also affected more than 1,000 homes across various districts. In response to the emergency, schools in several areas, including the capital city of Lucknow, were closed to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Atul Kumar Singh, a senior scientist at the Regional Meteorological Centre in Lucknow, noted that while rainfall may continue lightly in some eastern and western parts of the state, the intensity is anticipated to decrease.
The flooding crisis is not limited to Uttar Pradesh. In the eastern state of Odisha, officials reported that over 75,000 people have been evacuated to safer areas due to similar weather conditions. Additionally, the impact of the severe weather has extended beyond India's borders. In neighboring Nepal, the country's disaster management agency reported that 21 people died in weather-related incidents from Thursday to Sunday. Five individuals remain missing, and five others were reported injured. The floods and landslides have also caused damage to 194 homes in the region.
This recent bout of severe weather comes on the heels of a devastating flood event in August, which resulted in over 1,400 fatalities and left nearly 6,000 people unaccounted for in Nepal.
