**August Rainfall Reaches 41 Percent of Average in Cyprus**
The Meteorology Department of Cyprus has reported that rainfall in the free areas of the island has reached only 41 percent of the average amount for August as of Monday. From August 1 until 9 a.m. on Monday, the average rainfall recorded was 1.2 mm, significantly lower than the monthly normal of 2.9 mm.
The distribution of rainfall has varied across different regions, with Saittas experiencing the highest total at 13.9 mm, which is equivalent to 103 percent of its average for this time of year. Close behind, Platania recorded 13.2 mm, or 96 percent of its average. Athienou reported an impressive 9 mm, translating to 360 percent of its average, while Lythrodontas saw 7 mm, amounting to 233 percent of its average.
The weather over the weekend was marked by rain and thunderstorms in various areas, with some locations even experiencing hail. This unsettled weather pattern is expected to persist until at least Wednesday, according to the meteorology department's forecasts.
Looking ahead, local showers and isolated thunderstorms are anticipated on Wednesday, particularly in mountainous regions and inland areas. The possibility of hail remains in places experiencing storms. Despite the current rainfall, temperatures are expected to gradually rise, reaching seasonal averages by Thursday.
