**Award-Winning Documentary "One in a Million" Kicks Off 21st Lemesos International Documentary Festival**
The 21st Lemesos International Documentary Festival is set to commence on Saturday, August 1, in Limassol, Cyprus, promising a week filled with compelling narratives and thought-provoking themes. Organized by Brave New Culture and supported by the Department of Contemporary Culture of the Deputy Ministry of Culture, the festival aims to present a diverse array of documentaries that challenge audiences to engage in meaningful dialogues about the complexities of the human experience.
The opening night will feature the multi-award-winning documentary "One in a Million," directed by Itab Azzam and Jack MacInnes. This poignant film tells the story of Israa, a young Syrian woman whose journey from the streets of Izmir to Germany encapsulates the struggles faced by refugees in contemporary Europe. Over a decade, the filmmakers document Israa's experiences alongside her family as they navigate the perilous path to what they hope will be a better life. Each night will feature three documentary films, except for the final evening, which will conclude with two films and a closing music event.
