Bangkok, Thailand – A flood emergency has been declared across the Thai capital following 48 hours of relentless heavy rain that has left many roads submerged. Authorities are urging residents to remain indoors, particularly those living near the city's extensive network of canals, who have been advised to relocate their belongings to higher ground.

Somkid Pheuk-ngam, a 67-year-old resident living near a canal in northern Bangkok, described the situation to AFP, stating, "The water keeps coming in. It's hard to go out now. It's like at my waist level now." She noted that she has been forced to close her shop for two days due to the flooding. Pheuk-ngam also expressed concern that the current water levels appear to be worse than those experienced during the catastrophic flooding of 2011, which resulted in hundreds of fatalities across Thailand.
As of now, no casualties have been reported from the current flooding in Bangkok. However, the situation remains critical, with all 50 districts of the city designated as emergency zones. Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt indicated that the eastern parts of the city have been particularly affected, stating, "The rain keeps falling and we are doing our best. We are trying to pump the water out, but the water in canals are full... The risk areas are those who live near canals. Every canal is now filled."
