The Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation’s (BoCCF’s) “Moments at The Museum 26” series of events will conclude with the workshop “From Ancient Artefacts to Contemporary Creation”, in collaboration with the Cyprus Association of Potters and Ceramists. The workshop offers a unique ceramics experience that connects contemporary creation with the collections of the Cultural Foundation’s Georgios and Nefeli Tziapra Pierides Archaeological Museum, highlighting clay as a vessel of memory and culture. Five potters—a wheel-throwing artisan, a sculptor, two clay modellers and an artisan specialising in the construction of ancient vase moulds and primitive kilns—will guide the public on an experiential journey through the Museum, from observation to creation. The event begins with a brief tour of the museum, during which the potters will present the objects they will be making, providing a brief description to inspire the audience and allowing participants to choose the activity that interests them in advance. Next, participants will proceed to the Museum’s specially designed Education Room, where they will move through three different workstations until the object they are crafting is completed. Meanwhile, in the Foundation’s outdoor amphitheatre, a craftsman will demonstrate the process of making an ancient vase mould, as well as building a primitive kiln using traditional methods, giving the public the opportunity to witness an authentic example of Cypriot craftsmanship. The workshop is designed for children aged six years and older, as well as adults, while the outdoor activity is open to all visitors, strengthening the public’s connection to Cyprus’ ceramic tradition through a contemporary, creative perspective.
