Residents have expressed concerns about public urination, defecation, and street fights, which have become commonplace.
The situation has been exacerbated by a surge of visitors from outside the area, particularly during peak times such as heatwaves and school holidays. Kent Police have noted a significant increase in disturbances, with large groups of teenagers and young adults, primarily aged 16 to 18, arriving via the rail network from London and other parts of Kent. Last summer alone, police recorded over 10,200 incidents of anti-social behavior across Kent.
Local businesses have voiced their frustrations, claiming that the coastal areas have turned into lawless zones. Store managers have reported incidents of theft, with mobs of teenagers overwhelming retail establishments, while beachfront restaurants have had to close early to protect their staff from potential violence. Some business owners have even indicated plans to relocate due to the ongoing turmoil.
