**Title: Britain’s ‘First Gay Father’ and Husband Charged with Child Sex Offences**
Barrie Drewitt-Barlow, a British businessman known for being one of the country's first gay fathers, has been charged with multiple child sex offences, alongside his husband, Scott Drewitt-Barlow. The couple appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court on Monday, facing a total of 18 new charges, which include serious allegations such as rape and sexual offences against minors.
The charges stem from incidents that allegedly took place between 2013 and 2026. Barrie Drewitt-Barlow, 57, faces two counts of sexual activity with a child, two counts of paying for the sexual services of a child, five counts of rape, and four counts of sexual assault, among other allegations. His husband, Scott Drewitt-Barlow, 32, has been charged with two additional counts of rape and one count of causing or inciting sexual activity.
The couple is scheduled to return to court for a plea hearing in September. They have been remanded in custody, with a provisional trial date set for January 18, 2027.
During an earlier court hearing, prosecutor Serena Berry described the couple as public figures living a lavish lifestyle and alleged that they had targeted young males. Berry claimed that the couple would "recruit and befriend" these individuals before grooming them and inviting them to their home and other properties.
Barrie Drewitt-Barlow gained public attention in 1999 when he and his then-partner became recognized as Britain's first gay fathers after having children via surrogacy. Since then, he has made appearances on various reality television shows, including "Rich House, Poor House" and "Below Deck Sailing Yacht."
In May, Essex Police initiated an investigation that led to searches at Maldon & Tiptree FC, a football club the couple purchased in 2025, as well as their residence in Danbury, Essex. Both Barrie and Scott Drewitt-Barlow were arrested during a police raid on May 6 and charged two days later.
Following the charges, the Football Association suspended both men from all football-related activities pending the outcome of the investigation. The case has attracted significant media attention, given the couple's high profile and the serious nature of the allegations.
As the legal proceedings unfold, the couple's future remains uncertain, and they are expected to face serious scrutiny from both the public and the media.
