The four new vehicles, already in operational use, will be used by Compliance and Enforcement Officers during their patrols, aimed at detecting and tackling administrative and environmental violations. Officers have also been equipped with body cameras, digital cameras and vests. Akrotiri Administrator George Kiteos said the new vehicles and equipment represented a significant boost to the teams’ operational capabilities. “Our message is clear,” he said. He added that the SBA Administration remained committed to fair, professional and transparent enforcement of the law, alongside protecting the environment and serving the public, through the addition of the new vehicles and body cameras for officers. Kiteos said the enhanced capabilities would improve the teams’ effectiveness in tackling administrative and environmental violations, including illegal developments, unauthorised structures and activities affecting protected beaches. He added that while decisive action would be taken against those who broke the law, the primary goal was protecting public safety, preserving the unique natural environment, and supporting those who use and enjoy these areas responsibly. Dhekelia Administrator Maria Pieri-Kyriakidou said the addition of the new patrol vehicles marked a significant upgrade to the capabilities of the Compliance and Enforcement Officers. “These vehicles allow our teams to maintain a stronger presence,” she said. She continued that they would also help the teams work more effectively with local communities and provide more immediate and efficient services. She said Compliance and Enforcement Officers are in the communities every day, working with residents, identifying and reporting violations, and helping ensure compliance with SBA legislation. She added that the new vehicles would strengthen the teams’ presence, accessibility and immediate response, allowing them to provide even better services to their communities.
