**British Father Due Back in Court Over Son’s Fatal Fall**
A British father, aged 37, is scheduled to appear in Paphos district court on Thursday in connection with the tragic death of his three-year-old son, who fell from a fourth-floor window of a hotel in Chlorakas during a family holiday. The incident occurred on July 12, marking the first day of their vacation.
The father has been charged with causing death by recklessness. According to earlier court proceedings, he was reportedly holding his son and playing with him while the family waited outside their hotel room. Investigators are currently examining the circumstances surrounding the incident, particularly whether a nearby window was inadvertently left open, leading to the child slipping from his father's grasp and falling.
On Monday, the father returned to Cyprus and surrendered his travel documents, complying with the conditions set by the Paphos district court when he was initially allowed to travel to the UK for his son's funeral. He had been granted permission to leave the country on August 3, after depositing an additional cash guarantee of €10,000, on top of a previous €20,000 financial guarantee. Upon his return, the court's earlier restrictions, which included the surrender of his travel documents and weekly check-ins with the Paphos police, were reinstated.
The father’s legal representative, Alexandros Alexandrou, indicated that the defense is awaiting a decision from the attorney-general regarding their request to suspend the criminal prosecution. If no response is received by the court date, the father is expected to enter a plea. Alexandrou stated, “If there is no response by the 17th, then we will answer to the charges.”
Should the father plead guilty on Thursday, the court will likely proceed to sentencing. Conversely, if he pleads not guilty, the court will set a future date for the trial to commence.
