He faces a charge of causing the boy’s death through a reckless, careless or dangerous act. The 37-year-old had travelled to the UK after his bail conditions were temporarily suspended, to attend his son’s funeral and handle procedural matters as the child’s guardian. Paphos District Court had ordered the temporary lifting of his bail conditions from August 7 to September 14. The original conditions took effect again from September 15: bail of 20,000 euros and a ban on leaving the Republic, along with the surrender of his travel documents and weekly reporting to Paphos Police Station, among other terms. At the previous hearing, the Prosecution did not object to the temporary suspension of the bail conditions, but asked for additional safeguards to ensure the defendant’s return to Cyprus, and for the case to proceed quickly. The case concerns the death of the three-year-old boy, who died after falling from a height of about ten metres at a hotel in Paphos, on the first day of the family’s holiday in Cyprus.
