A total of 175 cartons containing 200 cigarettes each were seized from the luggage of a British passenger at Paphos airport on Thursday, the customs department said on Saturday.
The cartons did not bear the mandatory health warnings in Greek and Turkish, indicating that they had been smuggled from the occupied north.
The passenger was arrested on the spot and was released after the payment of an out-of-court fine of €5,000.
