The ruling, issued on Tuesday, is the latest in a string of failed attempts by the woman to challenge her ongoing detention before the Nicosia Criminal Court. Her latest appeal centred on her continued detention and on the postponement of the case, which was caused by health problems affecting the prosecution’s representative. The ruling noted that she has repeatedly gone back to both the Nicosia Criminal Court, which is hearing her case, and the Court of Appeal itself over the matter of her ordered detention. As recently as September 4, 2026, the Court of Appeal had rejected another of her appeals on the same issue. The woman faces 46 charges relating to fraudulent dealing in property belonging to another person, alleged illegal possession and use of properties without owners’ consent, and one charge of money laundering. The allegations concern property transactions in occupied Agios Amvrosios between 2023 and 2024. Prosecutors say housing complexes were being built on the land during that period. The trial began in March 2025 and is still ongoing, with the woman in detention since July 19, 2024. The Court of Appeal found nothing objectionable in the Criminal Court’s decision to postpone the case, ruling that the postponement was justified since the request for it had been properly reasoned. Rejecting all grounds of appeal, it said: “This case comes close to the limits of an abuse of process, since what happened in the immediately preceding days was not capable of overturning what applied at the immediately preceding hearing date. With respect, what is raised in the remaining grounds of appeal does not differ from what was decided in our ruling of September 4.” Her lawyer argued she has now spent more than two years in custody. He noted that if she were convicted and given the maximum seven-year sentence set out in law, she would already be eligible for release under an ankle monitor or transfer to an open prison. On that basis, he asked for her conditional release. The Court of Appeal rejected the request. The hearing resumes on Thursday.
