**CY-Alert Set for Nationwide Simulation Test on Monday**
The government of Cyprus is preparing to conduct a nationwide test of its newly developed emergency warning system, CY-Alert, on Monday. This simulation aims to finalize preparations before the system becomes fully operational. The test will involve sending out a simulated alert regarding a missing person and a potential kidnapping scenario.
According to the Civil Defence Department, the alert will be issued between 2:30 PM and 3:30 PM. The notification will include the phrases “TEST TEST TEST” or “EXERCISE EXERCISE EXERCISE” to clearly indicate that it is part of a drill and not an actual emergency. This exercise represents the culmination of a testing program that commenced earlier this month following the system's initial launch on June 2.
Unlike previous trials that were conducted in specific communities, this nationwide exercise will not feature the usual warning sound associated with emergency alerts. Authorities have opted for this approach to minimize disruption while still allowing for a comprehensive evaluation of the system's functionality across the country. Officials emphasized that the message is purely a test and does not pertain to any real incident, meaning that no action is required from the public.
The CY-Alert system has been designed to provide timely warnings during emergencies and disasters, allowing authorities to communicate directly with citizens in affected areas via their mobile devices. The primary goal of this system is to enhance public safety by delivering real-time instructions during incidents that pose a threat to life or property.
In preparation for future alerts, the Civil Defence Department has encouraged the public to ensure that alert notifications are enabled on their mobile devices. Individuals can find guidance on how to adjust their device settings by contacting the government support line at 1450. Additionally, instructional materials are available through the official Civil Defence social media channels and the CY-Alert website.
As the test approaches, officials are optimistic about the potential of the CY-Alert system to improve emergency response efforts across Cyprus. By conducting this nationwide simulation, the government aims to ensure that the system is ready to serve the public effectively in times of crisis.
