**Cyprus Supports EU Sanctions on Violent Settlers in the West Bank**
Cyprus has expressed its support for the implementation of restrictive measures against violent settlers and extremist groups in the West Bank. This announcement was made by Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos following his participation in the EU Foreign Affairs Council and the EU-Egypt Association Council held in Luxembourg on Monday.
During the meetings, Kombos highlighted the escalating violence in the occupied West Bank and emphasized Cyprus's commitment to taking action against those responsible for such acts. "The Republic has been very clear in supporting the promotion of restrictive measures," he stated, underlining the need to address not only the actions of settlers but also the political figures who incite violence and unrest in the region.
The discussions among EU foreign ministers extended beyond the West Bank, covering critical issues related to Gaza, Lebanon, and the broader relationship with Israel. Kombos pointed out the urgent need to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, reiterating Cyprus's readiness to consider any proposals that the European Commission may present regarding the EU's relationship with Israel.
In addressing the situation in Lebanon, Kombos welcomed a new EU support package aimed at assisting the country. He stressed the importance of maintaining the ceasefire and ensuring continued European support to Lebanon, which is facing its own set of challenges.
Furthermore, the Foreign Minister characterized Egypt as a "strategic partner for the European Union," recognizing its role as a stabilizing force in both the Mediterranean and Eastern Mediterranean regions. He highlighted Egypt's contributions to addressing issues such as irregular migration and terrorism. In light of this, Kombos advocated for a more ambitious relationship between the EU and Egypt, suggesting the pursuit of a broader strategic agreement and more effective utilization of available funding.
