According to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA), the meeting focused on the AI Strategy for tourism, which aims to accelerate Cyprus’s digital transformation as a tourist destination. The “Smart Tourism 2032” plan The Chief Scientist’s team presented the “Smart Tourism 2032: The Cyprus Artificial Intelligence Strategy” plan. The initiative forms part of the public consultation on the National AI Strategy, which concludes on August 31, the CNA reported. The central goal is to position Cyprus as a “Living Laboratory” of innovation, combining cutting-edge technologies with Cypriot hospitality. The strategy rests on three pillars: smart tourism infrastructure, smart destination planning and management, and empowering the digital traveller. Particular emphasis is being placed on small and medium tourism businesses, so they can gain access to modern digital tools and AI applications. How AI is changing the tourism product Koumis said artificial intelligence has already brought noticeable changes to key tourism functions, including information search, trip planning, service personalisation and the digital promotion of destinations. The Government and the Deputy Ministry of Tourism are seeking to make full use of AI, in cooperation with the Chief Scientist’s team, he said. The key aims are to strengthen Cyprus’s competitiveness and upgrade the overall experience offered to visitors. Call to join the consultation The Deputy Ministry of Tourism considers it necessary to fully inform the tourism ecosystem about the potential of the new technology. It has therefore called on businesses and industry professionals to take part in the public consultation and make use of the available digital applications. The adoption of AI solutions is expected to help create higher-quality, more personalised services, as well as more effective management and promotion of Cyprus as a destination.
