**Cyprus Bloomsday Festival Celebrates Women’s Voices in James Joyce's Work**
The fifth edition of the Cyprus Bloomsday Festival is set to take place on June 16, an event that pays homage to the influential Irish writer James Joyce. This year’s festival, titled "Women’s Voices in the Work of James Joyce, Ulysses," will be hosted on the rooftop of ARTos House in Agioi Omologites, in collaboration with the Irish embassy and the James Joyce Centre in Dublin.
The festival aims to highlight the significant roles women play in Joyce's literary works, particularly in his most celebrated novel, *Ulysses*. The event will feature performances by actresses Erika Begeti and Ioanna Papamichalopoulou, who will read excerpts from various chapters of the novel. Their readings will be complemented by live music, as internationally-renowned tenor and actor Morgan Crowley will be traveling from Dublin to perform piano pieces and sing during the event.
Curated by Lily Michaelides, co-founder of Ideogramma, the festival will be presented in both Greek and English, making it accessible to a diverse audience. The program is scheduled to begin at 8 PM, and while admission is free, attendees are encouraged to make reservations in advance.
The choice of June 16 for the festival is significant, as it marks the day in 1904 when Joyce met his future wife, Nora Barnacle. This date has become synonymous with *Ulysses*, as the events of the novel unfold over the course of a single day, and it is celebrated annually in Dublin and various locations around the world. Cyprus has proudly joined this global celebration for the past five years, fostering a connection between Joyce's literary legacy and the local community.
The Cyprus Bloomsday Festival not only honors Joyce's contributions to literature but also emphasizes the importance of women's voices in his work, reflecting a broader cultural and literary discourse. As the festival approaches, anticipation builds for an evening of engaging performances and insightful reflections on the role of women in Joyce's narratives.
