**Cyprus Business Council Engages in EU Forum in Dubai Amidst Growing Trade Discussions**
On June 19, the Cyprus Business Council (CBC) in Dubai participated in an EU Business Forum meeting, where European business leaders convened to discuss significant regional developments and sectoral priorities aimed at enhancing economic cooperation between the European Union (EU) and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The in-person meeting was co-hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in the UAE and the CBC, as part of the ongoing preparations for Cyprus's presidency of the Council of the EU in 2026.
The forum was supported by the Cyprus Trade Centre in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region, which is also based in Dubai, and the European Union Delegation to the UAE. This gathering was significant as it brought together representatives from various EU member states, providing a platform for the exchange of insights regarding the current economic landscape in the UAE and the broader region.
Discussions at the forum centered on several key themes, including resilience in business practices, commercial cooperation, and the vital role of the EU Business Forum in various sectors. Among the sectors highlighted were artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, defense, banking, energy, food and beverage, and logistics.
A notable focus of the meeting was the establishment of a new Energy Taskforce, which aims to address three critical areas: energy efficiency, sustainable aviation fuels, and infrastructure projects. This initiative reflects a growing recognition of the importance of sustainable energy solutions in fostering economic growth and environmental stewardship.
In addition to the Energy Taskforce, participants deliberated on the formation of a Food and Beverage Taskforce, which will emphasize the promotion of EU geographical indication products. This initiative is expected to enhance the visibility and marketability of high-quality European food products in the UAE. Furthermore, the establishment of a third taskforce dedicated to logistics was also discussed, indicating a strategic approach to improving supply chain efficiencies and trade facilitation.
The meeting also touched upon the upcoming negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement, which are anticipated to further strengthen economic ties between the EU and the UAE. The CBC emphasized the significance of such discussions, noting that they are essential for creating new opportunities for collaboration and advancing shared economic priorities.
The Cyprus Business Council expressed its commitment to actively participating in initiatives that bolster EU-UAE business relations. The council stated that meetings like this are crucial for fostering dialogue, enhancing cooperation, and bridging the gap between EU companies and the UAE business community. They also extended their gratitude to the EU Business Forum, its members, and guests for their contributions, which included valuable market insights and perspectives shared during the discussions.
As trade talks gain momentum, the CBC's involvement in the EU Business Forum underscores its role as a key player in promoting economic collaboration between Cyprus, the EU, and the UAE. The outcomes of this meeting may pave the way for further strategic partnerships and initiatives that support mutual growth and development in the region.
The engagement of the Cyprus Business Council in such high-level discussions reflects a proactive approach to international trade and economic diplomacy, positioning Cyprus as a vital link in the EU's economic relations with the Gulf region. As the landscape of global trade continues to evolve, the outcomes of these discussions will be closely monitored by stakeholders on both sides, eager to capitalize on the opportunities that lie ahead.
