**Cyprus Marks World Cleanup Day with Three-City Initiative**
On September 19, 2026, Cyprus will join a global movement to combat waste pollution by hosting a three-city cleanup drive as part of World Cleanup Day. Organized by City Friends Club, the initiative invites volunteers to participate in simultaneous cleanups in Limassol, Larnaca, and Paphos, aiming to foster community engagement and environmental awareness.
World Cleanup Day is celebrated in over 190 countries, mobilizing millions of volunteers to address litter and waste in public spaces. The results of the cleanup efforts in Cyprus will contribute to the global tally, which will be published on the event's official website.
The cleanups in Cyprus are scheduled to run from 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM. Volunteers are encouraged to arrive early for a briefing and equipment distribution from 8:00 AM to 8:20 AM. The cleanup activities will commence shortly after and continue until 10:00 AM, followed by a group photo and a half-hour break for socializing and refreshments.
Specific locations for the cleanups include the Lady’s Mile area in Limassol, behind the AJK building in Larnaca, and the Kissonerga coastal area in Paphos. City Friends Club will provide garbage bags and gloves for participants, while volunteers are asked to bring their own reusable water bottles. Comfortable clothing, sturdy shoes, and hats are recommended, and the event is open to children and pets.
To enhance the experience, each cleanup will feature music from local artists ION and Lubimaya, along with photographers documenting the event. Volunteers will also be treated to snacks and drinks post-cleanup, fostering a sense of community and celebration.
The Limassol cleanup is supported by AdTech Holding, a group of international adtech companies based in the city, which regularly contributes to local environmental and community initiatives.

City Friends Club, established in 2021, has been actively involved in cleaning efforts across Limassol, utilizing six trucks and a team of 15 cleaners. The organization has organized monthly cleanups for both volunteers and companies, focusing on parks and beaches. Since its inception, City Friends Club has successfully collected approximately 465,640 kilograms of waste, collaborating with over 3,000 volunteers and professional cleaners.
In addition to cleanup activities, the organization has implemented educational initiatives such as a National School Environmental Curriculum, the Coffee Friends Club, and the Graffiti Friends Club. They also host public talks and the RE:SOURCE eco-art exhibition to raise awareness about environmental issues.
City Friends Club has developed an app available on both the Apple Store and Google Play, allowing residents to report illegal dumping and waste in their communities year-round. The app currently has over 1,900 users, reflecting the organization's commitment to fostering ongoing environmental stewardship.
