The three medals took Cyprus’s tally to five gold, five silver and three bronze — 13 in total, one short of the all-time record of 14 medals the country set at the 2022 Games in Oran, where it won five gold, two silver and seven bronze. Cyprus has already matched that Games’ gold-medal count, with the competition still under way. Fotopoulou’s long jump gold None of Fotopoulou’s rivals could match her opening leap of 6.59 metres, which secured the long jump gold medal and held up as the best distance from her first attempt through to the end of the competition. Trajkovic matches his own national record France’s Erwann Cinna took gold in the men’s 110m hurdles with a time of 13.22 seconds, with Trajkovic finishing just three hundredths of a second behind in 13.25 to take silver. The result equalled Trajkovic’s own national record of 13.25 seconds, which he set in 2017 at the London Diamond League. Four years ago in Oran, he also won silver at the Mediterranean Games. Kulichenko improves her season’s best Montenegro’s Marija Vuković won the women’s high jump with a clearance of 1.94 metres, a height Kulichenko attempted twice more without success after securing silver with 1.92 metres on her third attempt — a new season’s best for her. Part of a strong Games for Cyprus The medals followed Antonis Kesidis’s gold in the hammer throw the previous day. Cyprus is currently ranked 11th in the overall medal table. Italy leads the standings with 58 gold, 58 silver and 48 bronze medals, ahead of Turkey (36-18-27) and France (18-14-35). Cyprus’s history at the Games Cyprus first competed at the Mediterranean Games in 1983, in Casablanca, and has taken part in every edition since. Coming into this year’s Games, the country had won a total of 65 medals — 19 gold, 21 silver and 25 bronze — ranking 16th in the Games’ all-time medal table. Athletics has traditionally been Cyprus’s strongest discipline, delivering the bulk of its medals across past editions, including through high jumper Kyriakos Ioannou and sprinter Eleni Artymata, a two-time 200m gold medallist.
