**Cyprus Seeks Leading Role in European Gaming Regulation**
Cyprus is positioning itself as a significant player in the realm of European gaming regulation, according to the Cyprus Gaming and Casino Supervision Commission (CGCA). On Tuesday, the commission launched a national awareness campaign titled “Take Control,” aimed at promoting responsible gambling and encouraging informed decision-making among players.
Chairman of the CGCA, Pieris Chourides, noted that the commission has made substantial strides over the past two years in areas such as supervision, transparency, institutional development, and international engagement. These advancements have contributed to Cyprus's growing influence in the European gaming landscape.
One of the key indicators of this progress is Cyprus being selected to host the annual conference of the Gaming Regulators European Forum (GREF). Chourides highlighted that this recognition underscores the CGCA’s contributions to modern regulatory practices across Europe, reflecting the island's commitment to enhancing the integrity of the gaming industry.
The CGCA has emphasized its ongoing efforts to bolster regulatory oversight, implement responsible gaming measures, and enforce anti-money laundering controls. The commission is also actively collaborating with various European and international organizations to ensure that its regulatory framework aligns with best practices.
Executive Director Charis Tsangarides reiterated the commission's commitment to player protection, stating that a robust regulatory environment is essential for the casino sector's sustainability. The CGCA has introduced the Metron funding programme, which is designed to support initiatives aimed at preventing problematic gambling and enhancing public protection through evidence-based interventions.
