Cyprus has made a significant appearance at the SIAL Guangzhou 2026 international food and drink exhibition, held from September 3 to 5. This initiative is part of the island's broader strategy to enhance trade relations with China and elevate the international profile of Cypriot businesses and products.
The participation of Cyprus in this prestigious event was organized by the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry, in collaboration with the Cyprus Trade Centre based in Beijing. The exhibition took place at the Poly World Trade Centre Expo in Guangzhou, a venue that welcomed over 1,500 exhibitors from 50 different countries. The event also attracted more than 66,000 professional visitors from across the globe, highlighting its importance in the international food and beverage sector.
At the Cyprus pavilion, attendees were presented with a variety of Cypriot food and drink products, alongside information on potential cooperation and business opportunities with Cyprus. Among the notable visitors to the Cypriot pavilion was Thailand’s Deputy Minister for Education, Science, Research, and Innovation, indicating the international interest in Cypriot offerings.
The pavilion featured a selection of traditional Cypriot products, including renowned items such as Cypriot wine, Commandaria, a dessert wine that holds a unique place in the island’s culture, zivania, a local spirit, and various fruit juices. Notably, Cypriot juices were highlighted during special presentations organized by the exhibition's organizers, showcasing the quality and uniqueness of these products to a broader audience.
The Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry emphasized that Cyprus's participation in the SIAL Guangzhou exhibition was a strategic move aimed at strengthening commercial ties with China. The event provided an invaluable platform for Cypriot companies to gain exposure in the Chinese market, which is increasingly significant for international trade in food and beverages.
This participation reflects Cyprus's ongoing efforts to promote the quality of its products on the global stage and to foster relationships that could lead to enhanced trade opportunities. The exhibition served not only as a venue for showcasing products but also as a networking hub for businesses looking to expand their reach in one of the world's largest markets.
As the global food and drink sector continues to evolve, events like SIAL Guangzhou play a crucial role in connecting producers with potential partners and consumers, and Cyprus's involvement underscores its commitment to being an active player in the international marketplace.
