The September 11 attacks in 2001 involved the hijacking of four commercial airliners by 19 terrorists. Two planes were flown into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, while a third struck the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. The fourth plane, United Airlines Flight 93, crashed into a field in Pennsylvania after passengers attempted to regain control from the hijackers. The tragic events resulted in the deaths of 2,996 individuals, including 2,977 victims and the 19 hijackers.
