**Cyta Hosts Forum on Responsible Governance in Cyprus**
Nicosia, Cyprus - On Tuesday, telecommunications provider Cyta convened a significant conference in Nicosia focused on the theme of responsible governance. The event, titled “Responsible Governance, Values in Action,” took place at the amphitheater of Cyta’s headquarters and attracted a diverse group of participants, including representatives from government, the business sector, various organizations, and the media.
The conference aimed to foster discussions surrounding the critical role of corporate governance in enhancing trust, accountability, and value creation within organizations. It underscored the necessity of transitioning from theoretical principles to practical applications in governance practices.
Keynote speakers included Cyta's chairwoman Maria Tsiakka, chief executive George Metzakis, and director of sustainable development Aliki Drakou, who collectively emphasized the importance of a coordinated approach to governance. They identified three essential dimensions for effective governance: the institutional responsibility and oversight of the board, its alignment with strategic objectives and operational processes, and its integration into the organization’s sustainable functioning.
Maria Antoniou-Hamatsou, a Cyta board member and chairwoman of the Institutional Framework, Regulatory Compliance and Corporate Governance Committee, provided insights into Cyta’s governance framework. She shared the steps the organization has already undertaken to enhance its responsible operational practices.
The keynote address was delivered by Petros Florides, a Chartered Director and chairman of the New Governance Team. His presentation, titled “The Yin and Yang of Good Governance,” set the tone for the discussions that followed.
A panel discussion, moderated by Adonis Pigasios, academic director of the European Institute of Management and Finance (EIMF), featured prominent figures including Florides, Andrea Mounti Savvidi, president of the Cyprus Compliance Association, Kyriacos Kokkinos, president of the Cyprus Institute of Directors and Corporate Governance, and Kassandra Sergidou, Cyta’s head of corporate governance and compliance officer. The panel focused on the transition from governance principles to their practical implementation, aiming to strengthen trust, accountability, and value creation in the Cypriot context.
Cyta articulated that this conference is part of its broader commitment to contributing to the ongoing discourse on corporate governance in Cyprus. The organization aims to highlight governance as a vital catalyst for fostering credibility, resilience, and sustainable development across various sectors. By organizing such events, Cyta seeks to enhance awareness of the significant role effective governance plays in supporting responsible operations and ensuring long-term value creation for institutions and businesses in the region.
