Dance enthusiasts in Cyprus will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the unique art form of Butoh this July, as Dance House Lefkosia announces a two-day workshop led by renowned Japanese Butoh dancer and teacher Maki Watanabe. Scheduled for July 5 and 6, the workshop is now open for registrations.
Maki Watanabe, who is based in Paris, brings her extensive experience and distinctive approach to the contemporary Japanese Butoh dance genre. This workshop is designed for individuals of all backgrounds, with no prior dance experience required. It aims to foster curiosity about dance, movement, perception, and presence.
The Butoh workshop will delve into the expressive potential of movement and dance, emphasizing the transmission of a sensory language that connects bodies, images, and space. Participants can expect to engage in various exercises that promote the exploration of new forms of presence and perception. Watanabe's teaching will guide attendees in listening to their bodies, engaging their imaginations, and developing a heightened sensitivity to the awareness of time and space.
The workshop is structured to accommodate different schedules, with sessions on Saturday from 10 AM to 2 PM and on Sunday from 4 PM to 8 PM. The cost for attending both days is set at €90, while participation for a single day is available for €50.
