**Deputy Culture Minister Inspects Restoration of Venetian Walls in Nicosia**
Nicosia, Cyprus – On August 4, 2026, Deputy Culture Minister Lina Kassianidou conducted an inspection of the ongoing restoration works on the Venetian Walls, a significant historical landmark in Nicosia. Accompanied by Chrysanthi Kounnou, the Curator of Antiquities, Kassianidou visited the site where extensive conservation efforts are currently underway.
The restoration project focuses on a specific segment of the Venetian fortifications, particularly the area extending from the Caraffa bastion to the Podocataro bastion, located in the southeastern region of the old town. This section of the walls is undergoing meticulous stabilization and conservation work, which is being executed by two specialized teams from the Department of Antiquities.
The teams are employing traditional materials and techniques to ensure that the authenticity and historical integrity of the monument are preserved. A key aspect of the project is the involvement of the Department of Antiquities’ skilled stonemasons, who are utilizing their expertise to replace and restore worn stones.
