**Disy Candidate Withdraws Recount Application Following Election Dispute**
Former Disy parliamentary candidate Anastasia Anthousi has officially withdrawn her application for a recount of votes in the Nicosia district, as confirmed by the electoral court on Wednesday. This decision comes after she raised concerns regarding the results of the May 24 elections, specifically related to the counting of ballots in the village of Nikitari.
Anthousi's application, initially filed in July, centered on allegations that four ballots from the Movement for Social Democracy (Edek) had been mistakenly counted as votes for the National Popular Front (Elam). She argued that this error had significant implications for the allocation of parliamentary seats across four electoral districts, ultimately affecting her candidacy in Nicosia where she did not secure a seat.
In the May elections, Anthousi received a total of 7,606 votes. Had the initial counting error not occurred, she would have been in line to claim the sixth seat for Disy in Nicosia. Her concerns about the counting process prompted her to seek a recount of the Nikitari ballot box, as she questioned the procedure followed to rectify the vote tally.
The withdrawal of her application marks a significant development in the post-election proceedings, as it closes a chapter on her challenge to the electoral results. Anthousi, who previously served as the deputy welfare minister, has not publicly commented on her decision to withdraw the application.
