**Doubles for Haaland, Cherki as Man City Cruise to Win Over Palace**
Manchester City secured a convincing 4-1 victory against Crystal Palace on Friday night, marking their second consecutive win in the Premier League. The match, held at Selhurst Park, showcased standout performances from Rayan Cherki and Erling Haaland, both of whom scored twice.
Crystal Palace began the match with a promising start, displaying an energetic approach. However, the tide turned in the 17th minute when Haaland opened the scoring. The Norwegian striker expertly connected with a cross from Antoine Semenyo, sending a looping header past Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson. This goal marked Haaland's first of the new league campaign.
The match continued with both teams creating opportunities. City’s Phil Foden had a chance to extend the lead in the 21st minute but sent the ball over the bar. On the other end, Palace's Eddie Nketiah squandered a significant opportunity early in the second half, failing to capitalize on a promising setup.
The game took a decisive turn in the 54th minute when Cherki found the net. The French forward skillfully maneuvered through the Palace defense before slotting the ball home, doubling City’s advantage. Just two minutes later, Palace responded with a goal of their own. Yeremy Pino’s free kick hit the crossbar and fortuitously bounced off City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma before finding its way into the net, giving Palace a glimmer of hope.
However, any thoughts of a comeback were quickly extinguished. Cherki struck again in the 59th minute, firing a deflected shot that found the back of the net, restoring City's two-goal cushion. The match concluded with Haaland adding his second goal in the 85th minute, receiving a pass from Foden and unleashing a powerful left-footed shot to complete the scoring.
City's manager, Enzo Maresca, praised his team's performance, particularly highlighting the initial challenges posed by Palace. "Probably the first five or 10 minutes we saw how difficult it was. It’s a difficult pitch and tough opponents," he noted. "After 10 minutes we controlled the game on the ball and off the ball and deserved to win."
Maresca also commended the contributions of both Cherki and Haaland, as well as Foden, who adapted to various attacking roles throughout the match. "In the last 10-15 minutes, you can see he was even more happy to play inside behind Erling. That’s his position," Maresca remarked, emphasizing Foden's versatility and work ethic.
With this victory, Manchester City has accumulated six points from their opening two matches of the Premier League season. The team will have nearly a week to prepare for their next fixture against newly-promoted Coventry City. Following that match, they face a significant challenge as they travel to Old Trafford to take on rivals Manchester United in the first derby of the season.
As the Premier League continues, City will look to maintain their momentum and build on their strong start, while Crystal Palace will aim to regroup and find their form in the upcoming matches.
