The approval comes exactly one year after the announcement that Eden had been acquired by Ygeia Group, which aims to strategically strengthen its position as the largest private inpatient care provider in Cyprus. The project, estimated at €1 million, involves extensions and alterations to the existing rehabilitation, wellness and care centre, changing its use to a 95-bed hospital unit. According to the Environmental Authority’s approval, the works are not expected to take longer than eight months. They include alterations to the two main buildings and the construction of a metal connecting bridge between them. Specifically, the interior of the rooms on the buildings’ upper floors will be reconfigured, with new hygiene facilities and changing rooms added in the basement and ground floor of Building A and the ground floor of Building B. The total area of the plots on which the project will be built comes to 29,346 square metres. Once completed, the new hospital will offer rehabilitation and inpatient services covering more than five medical specialties, with specialised medical and nursing staff. It will provide, among other things, post-surgical rehabilitation, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. Ygeia Group’s expansion has been welcomed by the Dromolaxia-Meneou Municipality, whose mayor said he hoped further similar investments would follow in the area. Mayor Kypros Andronikou told Phileleftheros that developments of this kind in the health sector were welcome in the municipality, and that upgraded health services could attract other related services to the area, adding that the project was “good for the wider Larnaca district.” Eden Medical Center in Tersefanou was founded in 2018 and also served as a Covid-19 patient accommodation facility during the pandemic. It offered rehabilitation services to people who had suffered injuries or disabilities, as well as neurological, post-surgical, respiratory and cardiac patients. Its palliative care services were aimed at people with serious illnesses. Its acquisition by Ygeia Group, whose main shareholder is ECM Partners, forms part of a strategic expansion to create a comprehensive range of inpatient services. The company’s portfolio also includes Ygeia Hospital in Limassol, founded in 1983, which is the largest private hospital in Cyprus and is fully integrated into the GHS.
