**Ebola Outbreak in DR Congo Becomes Deadliest in Country’s History**

The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is facing an unprecedented Ebola outbreak that has claimed the lives of 2,325 individuals, making it the deadliest outbreak in the nation’s history. This alarming figure surpasses the previous record of 2,299 deaths from the 2018-2020 outbreak, which was previously considered the most severe.
As of the latest report from the DRC’s National Public Health Institute, the total number of confirmed Ebola cases has reached 4,945, with 101 new cases reported in just the past 24 hours. However, the current situation shows many cases are being detected too late, often only after individuals have died in their communities.
In response to the outbreak, health authorities are evaluating a small number of experimental vaccines and therapies, while also assessing whether existing Ebola treatments could provide some level of protection. However, evidence supporting the efficacy of these treatments remains limited, primarily based on animal studies.
