**Education Ministry Allocates €125 Million for School Upgrades**
The Ministry of Education in Cyprus has announced a significant investment of over €125 million aimed at enhancing the infrastructure of public schools across the island. This initiative encompasses 23 major projects that are set to be completed by the academic year 2026-2027. The ministry's objective is to create safer, more modern, and better-equipped learning environments for both students and teachers.
Among the key projects included in this extensive plan are the construction of a new technical school in Limassol and the establishment of a branch of the Pedagogical Institute in the same city, with a combined investment of €33.7 million. These developments are part of a broader strategy to modernize educational facilities and ensure that they meet contemporary educational standards.
In addition to the Limassol projects, the ministry has allocated €36.5 million for a new technical school focused on green professions in Ayios Lazaros, Aradippou. This school is expected to play a crucial role in preparing students for careers in sustainable industries, reflecting a growing emphasis on environmental education.
The investment plan also includes significant upgrades to existing schools. Notable projects involve a €6.5 million expansion and seismic upgrade of the 2nd Technical School of Limassol, which aims to enhance the safety and functionality of the facility. Additionally, the Deftera Primary School is undergoing a €7.3 million reconstruction, which will improve its infrastructure and educational offerings.
Recognizing the importance of safety, the ministry has also outlined plans for earthquake protection projects in various schools. These include upgrades to the Evryviadeio Gymnasium and Drosia Gymnasium in Larnaca, as well as the Constantinoupoleos Gymnasium in Nicosia. Such measures are vital in ensuring that school buildings can withstand seismic activity, thereby safeguarding students and staff.
Beyond these major projects, the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with local school boards, will continue to carry out smaller maintenance and improvement works across the island.
