**Elderly Man Dies Following Beach Altercation Over Sunbed Dispute in Greece**
Vouliagmeni, Greece - An 82-year-old man has died following a physical altercation with a 76-year-old man over the use of sunbeds at a beach in Vouliagmeni on Sunday. The incident, which escalated from a disagreement over personal belongings placed on sunbeds, has drawn significant attention and raised questions about safety and conflict resolution in public spaces.
According to reports from local media, including Sigmalive, the confrontation began when the 82-year-old allegedly occupied multiple sunbeds and chairs with his personal items. The 76-year-old, accompanied by a young woman, attempted to claim some of the sunbeds for their use. Tensions escalated when the older man reportedly confronted the group, leading to a physical altercation.
The 76-year-old recounted that the 82-year-old first directed his aggression towards the young woman, who he described as disabled. In his statement, he claimed, “It was a bad moment... He had five or six chairs and five or six sunbeds... I went to get some sunbeds with the woman I was with and he said, ‘Leave them’... and then got up and hit her.”
Following this initial confrontation, the 76-year-old claimed that the 82-year-old punched him in the jaw after he reacted to the attack on the young woman. “I said, ‘You coward, hitting women’... Then he punched me in the jaw. My jaw is now crooked. I fell to the ground, I was dizzy, I got up. After that, I remember nothing,” the 76-year-old stated.
Witnesses reported that a crowd gathered as the situation intensified, with many expressing concern over the escalating violence. A friend of the 76-year-old, who was not present during the altercation, later claimed that the 82-year-old had boasted about his background, allegedly saying, “Do you know who I am? I’m from the Navy,” before the fight broke out. The young woman involved in the dispute reportedly sustained an injury to her face during the incident.
After the altercation, emergency services were called to the scene, and the 82-year-old was transported to a hospital in Voula, where he succumbed to his injuries around 11 a.m. on the same day. The police arrived shortly after the incident and arrested the 76-year-old on charges of causing grievous bodily harm. A 21-year-old woman, who was part of the group with the 76-year-old, was also called in for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
