**Eto’o Could Face Probe Over Alleged Payment from Russian Football Union**
The Association of Amateur Football Clubs of Cameroon (ACFAC) has initiated calls for an investigation into the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) and its president, Samuel Eto’o, following allegations of financial misconduct. These allegations stem from reports suggesting that Eto’o improperly received a payment from the Russian Football Union related to a friendly match held between Cameroon and Russia in October 2023.
ACFAC claims that the Russian Football Union breached its contractual obligations by transferring approximately 567,000 euros (around $655,000) into a bank account not associated with FECAFOOT. This alleged misappropriation of funds has raised serious concerns regarding the financial governance within Cameroonian football.
In response to these allegations, ACFAC has announced its intention to pursue legal action against Eto’o in the Cameroonian courts. Furthermore, they plan to file a separate complaint in Russia against the Russian Football Union, seeking accountability for the purported contractual violations.
Samuel Eto’o, a former football star known for his illustrious career with clubs like Barcelona and Inter Milan, has recently been in the spotlight for his leadership role in Cameroonian football. Despite the controversy surrounding him, Eto’o has publicly expressed support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who is currently facing scrutiny over a controversial World Cup sell-off plan. Eto’o stated that Infantino "hasn't done anything wrong," indicating his solidarity with the FIFA chief amid growing pressure for his resignation.
The situation has sparked widespread discussions about transparency and accountability in sports governance, particularly in the context of African football. As the investigation unfolds, the focus will remain on the implications for both Eto’o and the broader landscape of football administration in Cameroon.
The ACFAC's actions highlight a growing demand for integrity within the sport, emphasizing the need for proper financial management and adherence to contractual agreements. As the legal proceedings commence, the outcome may have significant repercussions for the leadership of the Cameroonian Football Federation and its future operations.
