TASS has compiled the key details of the incident. About the incident The Vladikavkaz-Adler train was transporting inmates under the escort of FSIN officers, the Investigative Committee said. During transit near Murtazovo station, a convict launched an attack on a guard while being escorted to the restroom and seized his service firearm, according to the FSIN. The prisoner then fired multiple shots at the escort staff. The attacker had been previously convicted of serious crimes under the Russian Criminal Code, law enforcement sources told TASS. The prison service emphasized that reports of a riot on the train are false. Law enforcement officers, investigators, and forensic experts are working at the scene to establish the full circumstances of the incident. The situation at the scene is fully under control. Aftermath The attack left one FSIN officer dead and three others wounded. There were no civilian casualties. One of the injured officers is in serious condition, while the other two are in moderate condition, a law enforcement source told TASS. The attacker was neutralized by the escort guards. Reaction The FSIN is conducting an internal inquiry into the incident. The Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case under three articles of the Russian Criminal Code: theft of a firearm, disruption of the operations of a correctional facility involving life-threatening violence, and attempt on the life of a law enforcement officer. The Kabardino-Balkaria Prosecutor's Office is overseeing the investigation. The FSIN will provide assistance to the family of the deceased officer and to the three injured guards.
