**Family Stranded at Sea for 16 Hours After Jet Ski Capsizes in Thailand**
A French family experienced a harrowing ordeal off the coast of Thailand when their rented jet ski capsized, leaving them stranded at sea for over 16 hours. The incident occurred on Thursday evening around 5:00 PM local time (10:00 AM GMT) near Koh Samui, a popular tourist destination known for its beautiful beaches and water activities.
According to local government official Amorn Chomchoey, the family consisted of a 50-year-old father and his two young sons. After their jet ski overturned, they were left adrift in the ocean and were eventually found "pale" and "exhausted" after swallowing significant amounts of seawater. Fortunately, they were rescued the following morning at approximately 10:00 AM local time on Friday.
The family had initially rented the jet ski for a 45-minute ride, but rough waves caused the engine to fail, leading to the capsizing of the vehicle. When the family did not return as scheduled, authorities were alerted, prompting a search operation that involved speedboats and additional jet skis. The search efforts extended into the night but had to be suspended until daylight.
Rescue teams resumed their search early Friday morning and successfully located the family still drifting at sea. Footage from the rescue operation shows one of the boys perched atop the submerged jet ski while his father, wearing a life jacket, waved to rescuers nearby.
After being brought back to safety, the family was taken to a local hospital for precautionary checks but were discharged shortly thereafter. Reports indicate that the boys' mother and older sister were waiting anxiously on the beach during the rescue.
Despite the traumatic experience, the family has chosen to remain in Thailand and continue their holiday, according to officials. The incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers associated with water sports, particularly in areas where conditions can change rapidly.
As tourism continues to thrive in Thailand, local authorities emphasize the importance of safety measures for water activities, urging tourists to be vigilant and prepared for unexpected situations while enjoying the ocean.
