**Ferrari Commemorates Schumacher with Special Livery at Monza**
Ferrari is set to honor the legacy of Michael Schumacher this weekend at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza by unveiling a special livery and team kit. This tribute marks the 30th anniversary of Schumacher's first victory with Ferrari, which took place at Monza in 1996. The German driver, who joined Ferrari from Benetton, played a pivotal role in transforming the team into a dominant force in Formula One during his tenure from 1996 to 2006.
Schumacher's arrival at Ferrari heralded a golden era for the team, during which he secured five consecutive World Championships and led Ferrari to six consecutive Constructors' Championships. His first win at Monza was particularly significant, as it ended an eight-year victory drought for Ferrari at their home circuit, with the last win prior to Schumacher's being in 1988.
This weekend, the Ferrari SF-26 cars driven by Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton will feature a livery inspired by Schumacher's iconic Ferrari F310. The design will prominently display Ferrari's traditional red, accented with white on the wings and black elements, along with seven stars and a logo that creatively combines the letters "M" and "S" to represent Schumacher's initials.
In addition to the special livery, Ferrari will showcase three historic cars from Schumacher's illustrious career. The F310, which was the vehicle he drove during his first season with the team, will be on display alongside the F2002, known for its dominance during the 2002 season, and the 248, which was used in 2006. Notably, the F2002 will be driven on Saturday by Schumacher’s former teammate Rubens Barrichello and on Sunday by four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel, further connecting the past and present of Ferrari racing.
Schumacher, now 57, has not made a public appearance since suffering a severe brain injury in a skiing accident in December 2013. His legacy, however, continues to resonate within the motorsport community and among fans worldwide.
As the current Ferrari team prepares for the race, they are entering the weekend with optimism. Both Leclerc and Hamilton have each secured a victory this season, and Ferrari stands second in the Constructors' Championship standings. The team last celebrated a win at Monza in 2024, with Leclerc also having triumphed there in 2019. Hamilton, who joined Ferrari last year, has a successful history at Monza, having won five times with McLaren and Mercedes.
This weekend's race also presents challenges, as Italian driver Kimi Antonelli, the championship leader for Mercedes, is expected to start from the back of the grid due to penalties associated with power unit changes.
