The test forms part of checks on the population early warning system in a real operating environment. The alert will be sent nationwide between 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. and will concern a kidnapping or missing person scenario. Civil Defence said the message will not be accompanied by the characteristic loud sound, in order to avoid causing public concern. The message will state either “TEST – TEST – TEST” or “EXERCISE – EXERCISE – EXERCISE”. Civil Defence stressed that the alert will not relate to a real incident and that the public does not need to take any action. Citizens are also reminded that, to receive CY-Alert notifications, they must enable the relevant settings on their devices. For guidance on mobile phone settings, the public may contact 1450. Instructions on how to activate the alerts are also available in videos on Civil Defence’s official social media accounts and on the website www.gov.cy/cy-alert.
