"The fire was contained at 12:40 a.m. [Moscow time, 9:40 p.m. GMT Thursday]," the department said in a statement. "The category of the fire was downgraded to two [out of possible five]." The mansion was designed by architect Ferdinand Miller and is also known as the Bremmer House. Constructed in 1872 in the eclectic style according to a design by Ferdinand Miller, an academician of architecture, the Bremmer House has been a landmark of St. Petersburg’s social and cultural life for decades.
