**Fire in Kokkinotrimithia Buffer Zone Under Control**
A fire that broke out near an abandoned shoe factory in the buffer zone of Kokkinotrimithia, Nicosia, has been successfully brought under control. The incident occurred around noon on Friday and prompted a swift response from local firefighting units.
According to fire brigade spokesman Andreas Kettis, a total of four fire engines were deployed to the scene, along with two additional fire engines from volunteer groups Atlas and Support Cy. The United Nations also contributed to the firefighting efforts by sending a tanker to assist in extinguishing the flames. In addition, a firefighting plane was utilized to help combat the fire from the air.
The blaze consumed approximately five hectares of wild vegetation, as well as waste and wooden pallets in the vicinity. Firefighters worked diligently to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading further into the surrounding area.
As a precautionary measure, the firefighting teams also focused on cooling down two large old gas cylinders located nearby, ensuring that they did not pose a risk of explosion or further complicate the firefighting efforts.
The quick and coordinated response from both professional and volunteer firefighting units played a crucial role in controlling the situation and minimizing damage. Authorities have not reported any injuries or significant structural damage resulting from the fire.
