**Firefighters Rescue Injured Individual from Paralimni Cave Amid Multiple Fire Incidents**
On Sunday, the fire service in Cyprus undertook a series of emergency responses, beginning with the rescue of an injured person from a cave in Paralimni. The incident occurred shortly after 1:00 PM, prompting crews from the Famagusta fire station to mobilize to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the casualty injured in a steep rocky area within the cave. Utilizing specialized rescue equipment, they successfully extracted the individual and transferred them onto a rescue stretcher. The injured person was then handed over to ambulance crews for further medical attention at the accident and emergency department of Famagusta General Hospital.
Later that evening, at approximately 10:12 PM, the fire service received reports of a large fire near the Larnaca–Ayia Napa motorway. This blaze involved dry grass, wild vegetation, and a significant reed bed located near the open market facilities in Livadia. Firefighters from Larnaca, supported by the EMAK rescue unit, responded promptly with five fire engines and a dedicated rescue team.
The intense heat from the fire caused damage to several temporary structures within the market area. Firefighters took immediate action to remove liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders from the vicinity, effectively preventing the fire from spreading further and protecting the remaining market facilities. A municipal excavator from Livadia also played a crucial role in assisting the firefighting operations.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire may have originated in the reed bed before extending to the surrounding areas. The cause of the blaze is currently under investigation.
In addition to the fire in Livadia, firefighters also responded to another incident in Avgorou late Sunday night, where approximately 750 hay bales were destroyed by flames. The circumstances surrounding this fire are also under investigation.
The fire service's swift actions in both incidents highlight their commitment to public safety and emergency response. As investigations continue, authorities are working to determine the causes of these fires to prevent future occurrences.
