The baby had been asleep in the cot at the family home when the mother realised, at around 8pm, that the child was not responding, police said. The baby was rushed to a private hospital in Limassol, where doctors on duty confirmed the death. The exact cause of death is expected to be established by a post-mortem examination, which will take place at a date yet to be confirmed. Police have been notified and are investigating the case.
